& The Iwo Jima Memorial Legacy Forest
The Veterans Movement Foundation (VMF) and the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative invite you to commemorate the 75th anniversary of one of the most courageous battles in American history. We are honoring each of the 6,821 fallen warriors at Iwo Jima who gave their lives for the freedom we enjoy today by planting 6,821 Hawaiian Koa Legacy Trees in the Iwo Jima Memorial Legacy Forest.
The Hawaiian translation of the word “Koa” is “strong, brave, fearless,” and Koa trees, known as “the warrior tree,” are revered in Hawaiian culture. The Iwo Jima Legacy Forest is located on the slopes of Mauna Kea, the tallest mountain on Earth, and is home to these iconic trees.

Each $90.00 Legacy Tree sponsorship will be dedicated to one of the 6,821 service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in this historic battle.
Each Legacy Tree sponsor will receive:
•A certificate of planting (choice of parchment or electronic certificate) in the name of a fallen Iwo Jima service member
You can leave a personal note of thanks, message, or inscription on the certificate
An RFID (radio-frequency identification) number located on that certificate will allow you to go online and visit your sponsored tree throughout its lifetime, using our proprietary TreeTrackerTM technology.
•A replica memorial dog tag of the service member you have planted a tree for (optional, please add $8).

Upon the completion of the Iwo Jima Memorial Legacy Forest, HLRI will donate to the Veterans Movement Foundation an original hand-drawing by Felix de Weldon (creator of the Iwo Jima Memorial), beautifully framed in koa. This historic piece will be paired with an overhead exhibit of dog tags bearing the names of each fallen soldier at Iwo Jima.

Each Legacy Tree you plant comes with an Electronic Certificate of Sponsorship sent via email detailing the tree's ID number and GPS location. Embossed paper certificates are available upon request for $5 each.
