Queen Kapiolani Hotel – an O‘ahu, Hawaii hotel – is proud to play a role in bringing back Hawaii’s native/endemic forests. Through our partnership with the non-profit Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative (HLRI), we are helping return treasured native trees to HLRI’s Legacy Forest at Haleiwa Forest site.
We consider it our duty. We can help honor Queen Kapiolani’s legacy by restoring the natural wealth of her islands. Queen Kapiolani was deeply concerned with the health challenges that plagued Hawaii. Through our partnership, we will help to plant trees and plants that native Hawaiians used for traditional medicine, “la’au lapa’au” within HLRI’s “Hawaiian Legacy Healing Forest.”
As a guest at Queen Kapiolani, you contribute to that effort. We add a “TREE DOLLAR” ($3) fee to each stay that goes straight to HLRI’s thriving reforestation program (you may opt-out if you choose not to support this program). To date, HLRI, through its partnerships, has planted over 600,000 native and endemic trees on Hawai‘i Island and O‘ahu.
Queen Kapiolani Hotel, with the help of our guests, has pledged to plant 1,000 trees with HLRI, helping to rehabilitate Hawaii’s threatened native ecosystem. We invite you to take part in your own tree-planting ceremony on O‘ahu (separate fees apply) or sponsor your Legacy Tree remotely online with the green order form below.
Each of the trees planted are geo-tagged with a unique identification number that records everything from their genetic make-up and health to the story of their planting. Each Legacy Tree you plant comes with an Electronic Certificate of Sponsorship sent via email detailing the tree's ID number and GPS location.
If you are interested in planting your own tree as a living memento of your Hawaiian vacation, to commemorate a wedding, as a gift to a grandchild, or in memory of a loved one, our geo-tagging system will allow you to track your tree throughout its lifetime. It’s living proof of your love for the planet: the essence of aloha ‘aina with a modern twist.
Each Legacy Tree you plant comes with an Electronic Certificate of Sponsorship sent via email detailing the tree's ID number and GPS location. Embossed paper certificates are available upon request.
