Did you know that honu can fly? All Nippon Airways is making that a reality!
Hundreds flocked to the Hawaii Convention Center on Wednesday night to check out the Japanese airline's new Airbus A380 FLYING HONU aircraft, which will soon fly between Tokyo and Honolulu.
There will be three aircrafts - decorated with blue, green and orange sea turtles - and the first one will officially take flight on May 24.
The airline says it chose the name honu because it's believed that those who catch a glimpse of a honu "will be blessed with good fortune and prosperity." In addition, it also symbolizes ANA's support of conservation efforts in Hawaii.
To celebrate the launch, the airline will also donate 520 Milo trees to the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative, symbolizing the 520 seats on each aircraft.
Also on the aircraft: an in-flight menu for first class featuring a menu by Michelin-star chef Ryo Takatsuka - of Noe at the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina - as well as ANA COUCHii for economy class, the very first couch seats offered by a Japanese airline.
Ticket sales for the flying honu aircraft began on Jan. 10.
